The Christmas Store is Born

The popularity of Christmas tree decorating in America grew when import goods from Europe started to arrive in the 1870’s. In 1880 the popular department store owned by F.W. Woolworth was pleasantly surprised when the first import shipment of German Christmas ornaments was sold within a couple of days. The department store stocked chains of tiny Czechoslovakia beads, silver foil icicles and crinkly of wire tinsel which added sparkle to their Christmas trees. Tin metal Christmas ornaments, cardboard ornaments, and paper decor were popular in the Christmas department of the store until the 1900’s. In the middle of the 1900 hundreds Christmas stores were introducing a wider verity of injection molded plastic Christmas decorations. The low cost of injection molding plastics and the high volume of production kept the cost of Christmas ornaments and other Christmas decorations affordable to the American shoppers.

Christmas Decorations.

Christmas trees are usually the focal point in most of the American households. Decking the halls of our homes with garlands, wreaths and outdoor Decorations add a wonderful beauty to the holiday season. The tradition in America of hanging a wreath on the front door symbolizes a welcoming gesture to friends, visitors or guests. During the holiday season the magic of Christmas comes alive with the creativeness of the Christmas designers around the world. Because of the enormous selection of Christmas decorations available today there seems to be no rules when it comes to the personal selection of Christmas decorations.

An Original American Tradition.

The hanging of electric Christmas lights both inside and outside is an original American tradition. After the Thanksgiving celebration in America, Christmas tree lights and outdoor Christmas decorations start to appear on front lawns of many homes through the neighborhoods. Businesses even want to celebrate the Christmas holidays and will decorate their buildings and offices to brighten up the atmosphere for their employees and customers. This wonderful Christmas practice of lighting the front yards of homes with spectacular Christmas light displays makes driving through these colorfully lite neighborhoods a cheerful and delightful experience during the holiday season. Throughout the cold winter days of late November and December, there are many colorful Christmas light displays around every corner that bring the Christmas holiday spirit into so many hearts from the young to the old. Passerby’s of all descriptions enjoy the colorful beauty of the outdoor Christmas decoration lights. We might conclude by observing many homes, businesses and Christmas stores that the bells of freedom ring when it comes to Christmas décor creativeness.
